La Fenice is participating in the International Commedia dell'Arte Day with an afternoon of free workshops, in conjunction with Texas State Theatre. Workshops are as follows:
Room 201, 2:00-3:20: Outdoor Performance Tropes of the Commedia dell'Arte
Commedia dell'Arte was born on the streets, and developed a number of conventions that helped them tell their stories across open spaces and over atmospheric noise and human din. This workshop allows students to explore these conventions in their original Commedia context and experiment with adaptations for modern outdoor performances.
Instructor: Kate Meehan
Room 201: 3:30-4:50: Choral Movement Workshop
This workshop, led by Aaron Johnson, is designed to explore methods for rapidly creating dynamic ensemble movement and stage pictures that emphasize levels and balance. The class will focus on choral movement as it pertains to Greek tragedy, while demonstrating how these techniques can be applied equally to actors interested in Commedia dell'Arte.
Room 113: 5:00-6:30: Characters of the Commedia dell'Arte
Students will explore traditional and modern interpretations of the Commedia dell'Arte characters.
Instructor: Dr. Gian Giacomo Colli
All students should bring water and masks (if they have them), and come prepared to move.
