Event detailsAbstract:
A Zoom Class on the History and Future for Inclusive Commedia dell'Arte

Description:

Comedian Keegan-Michael Key recently praised Commedia dell'Arte as the origins of the sketch and improv comedy tradition that led to his work on Key & Peele.  But how do we honor the resources and influence of Commedia dell'Arte's past without perpetuating trauma, oppression, or colonial ideologies from this Eurocentric form of violent, comedic, social commentary?

Matthew R. Wilson, as a guest artist in Prof. Ricky Ramón's "Acting Styles" class, leads theatre students through a two-day exploration of the form of Commedia as an opportunity for current social critique and an invitation to devise and create anew for the future.
