Now's your chance to jump into the big ol' bucket-load of fun and trouble commedia is sure to provide. By getting up under these masks (and we got some really good ones) you learn to bring great physical expression and specificity to your performance and to create hilarious and astounding characters and to develop games and comic material deeply tethered to character and the comic world. But maybe you’re all like, “Isn’t commedia all stupid and hokey and like from some kinda really third-rate Ren faire?” Yes, sometimes! But not how we’re gonna rock it. The archetypes of commedia are ancient but they still walk among us in life and on TV and the movies and theatre (if anybody still cares about that!). We will pursue commedia as it exists in the contemporary world. And then we’ll have a drink! If you have “experience,” good. If you have no “experience,” good! AND IT'S FREE! Instructor: Virginia Scott recently created original commedia performances for Symphony in the Glen at the Griffith Park stage and the Fowler museum at UCLA. In NYC she created The Brighella Brother Sausage Shop which will be back again on some coast or another some day, dammit! She has taught commedia at USC (MFA), the Clown School, Marymount Manhattan College & The Funny School of Good Acting, which she founded with Christopher Bayes. She’s taught clown, bouffon, movement, le jeu and/or other kinds of wiggling around at The Juilliard School, Tisch School of the Arts at NYU: International Theatre Workshop in Amsterdam, Pace University, Movement Theatre Studio, Art of Acting Studio and the Idiot Workshops.
