Event/s Description:

Performances, workshops and lectures to promote beauty and joy of Commedia dell'Arte

Milano in Commedia is a day of performances, workshops and lectures dedicated to Commedia dell'Arte. The event, organized by Compagnia Carnevale, will take place on February 21st at Teatro Continuo Alberto Burri, outdoor theatre in the heart of Parco Sempione just a short walk from La Triennale Museum.

The event is part of the "Commedia dell'Arte Day 2016" organized by SAT.
SAT, non-governmental organization linking together professionals of the Commedia dell'Arte, within the incommedia.it project, every year starting in 2010, celebrates Commedia dell'Arte Day to support the candidacy of this tradition as "Intangible Cultural Heritage" of UNESCO. Actually, on 25th February 1545 the first company of professional comedians was legally established by a notarial deed. This date has been symbolically chosen worldwide as Commedia dell’Arte birthday.

Starting from this date, now become legendary, we can follow the development and evolution of this wonderful spectacular phenomenon: because Commedia dell'Arte is at the same time instrument of joy and fun, of catharsis and reflection, but above all it makes audiences of all ages dream. A kind of folk theater that, thanks to the use of theatrical disciplines as mime, dance, fencing, acrobatics, is universally recognized as the mother of all contemporary theatre.

It’s during the twentieth century that Commedia dell’Arte finds in Milan a fertile ground, from which comes to life that little miracle in the history of the theatre that is Harlequin servant of two masters by Giorgio Strehler.

Milan is also the city of Dario Fo, the latest Italian Nobel Prize for Literature, who devoted many years of his glorious theatre research to Commedia dell'Arte, and especially to the Harlequin's mask.

Milano in Commedia is therefore the ideal heir of this glorious tradition with the intent to maintain the strong connection between the city of Milan and the Commedia dell'Arte.
